MidAtlantic completed a comprehensive renovation and modernization of the existing three-story, 24,600 SF library at Villanova University’s Cabrini Campus, transforming the facility into a modern, efficient, and future-ready library and study center designed to meet Villanova University standards.

A defining feature of the project was the installation of a new geothermal heating and cooling system, an important requirement associated with alumni funding for the renovation. The system utilizes a geothermal well field consisting of 22 wells drilled approximately 400 feet below grade, harnessing the earth’s stable subsurface temperatures to provide an energy-efficient source of heating and cooling for the building.

The renovation included a complete redesign of all three floors with new finishes, upgraded building systems, enhanced security, and infrastructure improvements focused on energy efficiency and long-term performance. Along the building’s primary elevation, MidAtlantic replaced the existing three-story curtainwall and glazing system, significantly improving both the appearance and performance of the exterior envelope.

Additional improvements included removal of the existing elevator and installation of a new 3,500-pound electric traction elevator, as well as construction of a specialized climate-controlled art storage room with dedicated HVAC systems designed to protect and preserve valuable University artwork and artifacts.

From the geothermal well field beneath the campus to the renewed spaces throughout all three floors, the project represents a comprehensive modernization of an existing Cabrini facility while creating a welcoming, sustainable, and technologically upgraded environment for the next generation of Villanova students.
